Luke and Tessa

I met Tessa and Luke through Tessa’s mom, Lynn. Lynn works at my veterinarians office, and we were talking while Ozzy was getting coned. I told her that I had a permit to shoot at the Distillery District and the person I had booked had flaked on me. She thought Tessa and her boyfriend Luke would enjoy a portrait session and suggested it to them. Turns out, Lynn is a friggin’ genius.

On the very cold day that we agreed to meet I met up with my friend Heather who was shooting with me. We were waiting for Tessa and Luke to show up, and I pointed at a couple walking down the alley commenting on how good they looked said we should ask this couple to pose as it would look great in our portfolios, when the woman called out “Are you Luca?” Score!

Tessa and Luke were fantastic. Relaxed, fun, and they loved the camera just as much as it loves them. Despite the cold, it was a great time shooting them.

Now Luke, how about booking an engagement shoot?

    Hello,

Neat blog. I recognized some of your photos from Chase Jarvis’s workshop on Big Lights. You are one lucky individual to shoot with him. I came about this post when searching for Distillery District engagement photos as I recently did one there. As it was my first time shooting an engagement session there I didn’t realize I needed a permit. Luckily I didn’t run into anyone who gave us any hassles about it.

Check out my Distillery pics here if you get the chance:

There’s lots to read on your blog so I’m going to keep digging. Keep up the good work.

      Hey Spencer, great shots.

Having a permit is just good form and it’s required in more places than ever before. If you don’t have one your shoot could get cut short just as things start to get rolling. Most city owned areas require permits and a permit may even be required to shoot on the street. If you don’t have a permit it doesn’t mean you can’t shoot, but you better have a backup plan in case you’re told to move along. Most places require a permit only for “professional” photographers so you’ll only get hassled if your gear looks expensive.

BTW: I would be lucky to shoot with Chase (and I hope to one day soon) but I am lucky to have shot with Martin Prihoda at the Big Lights Far Away workshop which I strongly recommend.

  2. [...] really cool people. I first photographed Tessa with her boyfriend Luke, you can read about that here. I have since had the pleasure of shooting her on two other occasions. These are some of the shots [...]
